Risk disclosure
Read this before connecting an exchange account. You have to accept it before any bot of yours trades real money, and we ask again whenever this text changes.
You can lose money, including all of it
Cryptocurrency prices move violently and without warning. An automated strategy can lose money quickly, and can keep losing it while working exactly as designed. Most automated trading strategies lose money over time. Do not allocate money you need.
Past results, including ours, prove very little
The performance figures on this site come from paper trading: simulated fills against real prices, with fees and slippage modelled. They are honest about what the strategy did, and they are not a forecast. A strategy that made money for three months can lose money for the next three. We publish the losing presets alongside the winning ones for this reason.
This is software, not advice
BitBot is a tool you configure and run. We are not your financial adviser, we do not know your circumstances, and nothing on this platform is a recommendation to buy or sell anything. Decisions about what to allocate and which strategies to run are yours.
We never hold your money
Your funds stay in your own exchange account throughout. You give us an API key that can trade and cannot withdraw, and we check that with the exchange before accepting it. You can revoke that key at your exchange at any time, without asking us, and your positions remain yours to manage from your exchange's own interface.
What can go wrong that is not the market
- An exchange can go down, reject orders, or change its API. Your bots stop trading when that happens; open positions stay open with their stops resting on the exchange.
- Our platform can go down. Protective stops are placed on the exchange rather than held in our software, so they continue to work while we do not.
- A stop is not a guarantee of price. In a fast market it can fill well below where it was placed.
- The analyst reads news written by other people. News can be wrong, and news can be written specifically to mislead an automated reader. Position sizes and stops are set by deterministic code that does not read the news, which bounds this but does not remove it.
Regulation
Crypto assets are declared financial products in South Africa under the FAIS Act. This platform is non-custodial software: it does not hold client funds and does not make recommendations. That is a description of what we do, not a statement about your own obligations, which depend on your circumstances.
